Open the "cdnshelp" application and type "systemverilog debug workshop" in the search bar. This should take you to a page listing all the self-paced workshops and tutorial videos. Scroll down to find "SystemVerilog and UVM Debug". This workshop should give you a good overview, and enough pointers to know what else to search for in the documentation.

OK, on the Edit->Settings menu you can add or change the file associations. Depending what PDF reader you have installed you may need to set it to "evince", "xpdf", "acroread" or anything else that can open PDF.

Don't know about IUS/NCSIM, but you can use a virtual interface and pass class variables to it, the associated physical interface can certainly be seen on waveform. Yes it is painful, but kind of works across tools while the debug is still maturing. If you have Verdi (Novas/SpringSoft) they have some interesting features in this space.eyelet curtains
