vManager API

Hi all,

I would like to use the VAPI and especially the regression runner to launch several sessions (vsifs) one after each other, with some timing in between the starts of teh vsifs. I am trying to get information how to use the VAPI, invoke VAPI commands (e.g. from Makefile), invoke the regression runner etc. but so far I found only brief help in the Cadence help (or probbaly I was looking for it in the wrong place). Have someone used the VAPI regression runner and could give me some hints how to make the first steps (e.g. where could I find some examples)?

Thanks a lot!

    Hi Lorinc.

The vAPI documentation is a little bit sparse at the moment but we are working on some tutorials, to be released soon.

Till then, I could give you some pointers and an example in Python for starting multiple VSIFs via vAPI. I can't post them on the public forum but if you can share me your corporate email, or file a support case on our support site and copy me, I can respond to there.

The good news is that it's actually really simple once you understand a little bit of the background to JSON and REST.

As an update to this thread, in the last 2 years since the original post, vManager R&D have improved the built-in documentation in the vAPI section of the web portal, including the addition of many worked examples that you can crib from. We're deliberately doing this in "live doc" form so that whichever server you connect to, you'll always have the right documentation for that server (version). In addition there is a REST endpoint that lets you query the schema, so you can actually write a generic script that tests the server's vAPI capabilities and reacts accordingly, i.e. only sending requests or attributes that the server can handle. This is probably more advanced than most users would ever need, but might be handy for some situations.

Hi Stephen, I have a customer who is also interested in any and all documentation about using REST API and CURL.  Can you send me, or point me to, information on this subject?  Thanks, Mike mgoode@cadence.com
