Difference betweeen synthesize- generic, mapped, placed in RC

Respected all...........

In RTL compiler we have the synthesis command

 synthesize -to_mapped -effort high -no_incr

in this, instead of mapped , we have generic and placed also

wts the difference between these three.........

please clarify this

    -generic  => RTL optimization
