Most common problems and tools you are using

Hello everybody,

not too sure yet as what youa re expecting from this forums. We do know what we want to make of them i.e.e a place where we, the users, can discuss issues, share best practices and share our frustration but I would like to know what you would like to see here.

For a start I am curious to see what are your top 5 most common problems and get an idea of which tool you are using for synthesis as well as for test insertion/analysis.

This is our forum so let give it life.

Thanks,
Eric Venditti (forum moderator)

I just wanna tell me , what tools we r using.
basically we use all cadence tools for front end and backend design.
As my experience RTL compiler becoming very big competitor for Design compiler in 1 yr.
i use both DC and RC for synthesis. What i saw difference in RC is run time faster and handle big design in minimum time.

    placement> Physical compiler is good.
Logic Synthesis> RTL compiler is good.

Overall RTL Comipler and Encounter Test is very good tools my point of View.

    Have a nice day

Top five problems? Oooo, lets see....

    1) Unrealistic timescales
    2) Poor RTL code from 3rd parties (internal and external)
    3) Unrealistic expectation from customer or management
    4) Incomplete constraints
    5) Umm, maybe the odd tool issue

As for synth, should use DC, but have also been using RC (and been pushing internally for the central cad guys to globally support RC).

Test insertion is done using the synth tool for scan chains.

As for what I'd like to see here? I'd like a forum where I can hang out with all the other "middle-end" hobbits, pick up or share tips and bitch about management ;-)
