timing reports in rc

I want to specify start- and end-point for the paths in my design and I want the points to be instances. I tried doing this with the -from and -to options since in the manual it says that instances are valid points, but when synthesising rc complains that these are not valid start or end points. It works fine when using pins but in my case I need it to be instances.

Anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong or could tell me if it's possible to use instances as start or end points?

    Hi Mike,
Are you specifying combinational instance? You can't have combinational instance as start or end point, it has to be sequential instance.

thanks synthman, that was exactly the mistake I was doing in the beginning. I changed it and it works  fine now.
