invoke modelwriter

The virtuoso version I am currently using is IC615. My problem is, I cannot make the tool automatically pop out modelwriter.

The tutorial available online (below) is for older version of virtuoso. I selected verilog-A edito, but nothing happened.

ecee.colorado.edu/.../ams_inv4.html

Can anyone help me to figure out how to launch modelwriter automatically?

Thanks,

Yu

    1. File->New->CellView
    2. make sure the lib/cell/view are filled in (note that if you change the view to "veriloga" after step 3, it will change the Type back to "VerilogA", which isn't what you want.
    3. Set the Type to "modelwriter" and the Application will end up as "ModelWriter"
    4. OK the form. You'll get another popup giving you a choice of VerilogA or VerilogAMS. Pick what you want and OK the form
    5. Modelwriter will appear.

    Andrew.

    Hello Andrew,

I find this old post since I also have this issue recently. As you said we need to choose lib/cell/view, can you let me know what name for the field of "view"? I have tried "veriloga", "VerilogA" and sth else, no one really works for me. Can you give me some clues about it?

Actually, the view would be updated automatically after you choose the type, but this is not the case for modelwriter.

What do you mean by "no one really works for me"? What doesn't work? Which IC version are you using?

Note there is a problem in IC618 where once you get to the stage of model writer being launched you get an error:

\o *WARNING* editFile: /export/home/apps/IC618_isr/tools.lnx86/modelwriter/bin/mwexe: error while loading shared libraries: libcdsdoc_sh.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

This is essentially because modelwriter is obsolete and has not been developed for some time. There's been a request to remove it for some time, but hasn't been planned yet. CCR 2130327 is about the new issue in IC618 (the workaround is to set the UNIX env var LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include (say) <XCELIUM1903instDir>/tools/lib or <IC617>/tools/lib which contains the 32-bit version of this library.

However, if you mean something else, please explain what you mean. In general the view name is not important - you can call it what you want. Provided that the view name is then referenced in the view list in ADE (Setup->Environment) or you ensure that the view is picked when you use a config view (via the hierarchy editor) and simulate using the config, then it should work fine.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hello Andrew,

I have same problem with modelwriter in IC617

After the pop-up to choice the verilog-A and verilog-AMS, I got an error message in CIW

    ERROR: can't determine installation root.
can't find tools/bin/cds_root in any parent directory of /cad/tools/CADENCE/IC61/tools.lnx86/modelwriter/bin/mwexe
    ERROR: can't determine installation root.
can't find tools/bin/cds_root in any parent directory of /cad/tools/CADENCE/IC61/tools.lnx86/modelwriter/bin/mwexe
Error in startup script: can't find package Iwidgets 4.0
    while executing
    "package require Iwidgets 4.0"
    (file "/cad/tools/CADENCE/IC61/tools.lnx86/modelwriter/main.cph" line 13)
    invoked from within
"cipher source [file join [file dirname [file dirname [info nameofexecutable]]] main.cph]"
Modelwriter:main-decode: there is a problem with your installation of this software.

I try to add env var LD_LIBRARY_PATH  to include <IC617>/tools/lib, but there no change

    Best Regards,

    Hi Ashbir,

No, you have a different problem - the errors you get are totally different from the earlier report - this is why the forum guidelines ask you to create new posts.

Anyway, I don't know what is causing this. We had one report (CCR 1936433) which exhibited the same symptoms in a specific IC617 hotfix version. I struggle to see how it got as far as running mwexe and producing these issues, because it has to find the installation root to even get that far.

Your best bet would be to contact customer support - maybe we can diagnose the problem with a debugging session with you?

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew

I cannot access to customer support, because I use academic license.

Yes, how to start the debugging? I don't have any clue to start it.

This depends a bit on where you are in the world - if you are in a European University you can contact EuroPractice for support (if under their scheme). Most of the rest of the world has a University Program where each university site can list up to 3 contacts that receive Cadence Online Support accounts, and you can channel the support through those contacts - it's usually somebody at the university who leads the program. Those people can also request "COS Lite" accounts which allow read-access to the support sites. If you're not sure who the contact is, perhaps you could contact universityprogram@cadence.com to find the right person for your institution.

At this stage I'm not sure what the problem might be - I'd have to see it to have some ideas how to debug - which is why I suggested support.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
