Waveform Viewer selection in AMS Designer

DavidLou

hello exports,

silly question, I'm setting up the AMS Designer Environment by following amsenvug.pdf (IC6.1.7) and managed to get the mix-signal design (verilog and schematic, simplified from vfs_amsflow example ) simulated which is great.

only one thing I noticed that I seem to be able to select waveform viewer of "SimVision" or "Visualization and Analysis". but even I select "Visualization and Analysis", it still show waveform by "SimVision". should I do anything more than just clicking the selection button?

thanks,

David

    Hi David,

I am wondering if you are running your AMS simulation in interactive mode, in which case, Simvision will be automatically launched when simulation starts. Are you running the simulation through ADE or AMS plugin in Hierarchy Editor? If through ADE, you can set the mode to 'batch' as shown in the form below. Once the simulation finishes, you can plot your selected signals in ViVA. If you are running the simulation through config view, I'd suggest you switch to running it from ADE as that interface is more evolved and the recommended way for running AMS simulations.

    Regards,

    Saloni

    thanks Saloni,

exactly I ran from Config. I'm able to run from ADE now and get both waveform viewer working.

    thanks a lot,

    David

    Hi Saloni,

one follow-up question, I am able to get SimVision work from ADE. but if I try to run same simulation from Ocean script it failed with following message. is there anyway to run SimVision from Ocean script? I don't really need it to be interactive debugging, just display the result waveform like ViVa doing.

ERROR (OCN-6124): You can not launch SimVision in graphical mode from OCEAN command line.

Use Virtuoso(R) Analog Design Environment in order to launch SimVision(R) in this mode.

    thanks,

    David

    Hi David,

I recently filed a CCR, 1848075, asking for this restriction to be removed. There's no good reason for it (other than I think somebody thought that running OCEAN scripts would always be non-graphical). I did an experiment where I tried modifying the code so that it was possible, and all worked well.

However, the fix is not currently planned - it's backlogged for consideration in a future planning phase.

So right now you can't get the simvision UI to appear when running from an OCEAN script.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

I'd like to add myself to the list of people who want this feature (in case it helps upping the priority).

Asking here won't help - as R&D won't do a search of the forums to assess the level of interest, and keep doing that to check if there have been any further requests. If you want this, you should contact customer support and request a duplicate of CCR 1848075 to be filed (then we know who you are too, and you'll be able to check the progress through support.cadence.com too).

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,

is it possible to have your work-around for short-term?

    thanks,

    David

No, unfortunately I can't. It relied on redefining a Cadence function and I can't do that in a supportable way. This was just an experiment I made to see whether there were other side effects of the change, not something that could be provided to customers.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
