runams not linking to virtuoso subprocess

I am trying to used runam to netlist my design.  This is a new installation of Virtuoso on Centos7.  I can netlist the design from within Virtuoso itself, but runams fails with the following message:

Program @(#)$CDS: runams version 6.1.8-64b 09/22/2020 19:03 (cpgsrv13)
Sub Version sub-version IC6.1.8-64b.500.14
Starting slave virtuoso session .............................................................................................Failed to import the MPS handle.
Exiting runams.

I am invoking runams with this:

runams \
    -cdslib ./.tmp.cds.lib \
-irunopts '-nocopyright -linedebug -define TESTBENCH=reference_tb' \
    -netlisteropts amsPortConnectionByNameOrOrder=name \
    -log ./.reference.mvi.netlister.log \
    -lib buck \
    -cell reference_tb \
    -view mvi \
    -netlist all

Does anybody have any suggestions on how I could resolve this problem?

There have been quite a few improvements in the messaging in the 2 years since the version you're using which should help debug this, assuming it has not been resolved already. I found a number of reports of this with a variety of reasons - I would suggest updating to the latest IC6.1.8 hotfix (ISR33) and then if the problem still occurs, please contact customer support.

Thanks Andrew.  I did install the latest version.  That did not resolve the issue, but it did result in a better error message.  The virtuoso process being run by runams was not getting a license.  The reason was that the license server was too old.  Upgrading the license server resolved the issue.

    I really appreciate the help!
