Transformer Model Using EMX

Hi,

On n-port extraction of passives (in this case a transformer), I observe that pin selection (internal or edge) has effect on L and Q. My question is, which one is correct (closer to Silicon)?

Also, on EMX form, advanced options, when should we ever select the "Radiation" box?

Thanks!

There are two Articles on Cadence Online Support that'll help you on these questions:

How and when to turn on full-wave mode in EMX

EMX by default uses quasi-static mode.  If you have a testcase that falls into a class of structures where the size and highest frequency are not valid for quasi-static mode, then you must use full-wave mode.   Select the radiation checkbox to turn on full-wave mode.  Important:  you MUST use referenced port syntax for this to work properly.  See the Article for details.

With regards to pin selection (internal vs edge) and general best practices, see:

Tips on Specifying Ports in EMX

    and

Using 'Cadence pins' as ports with access direction in EMX simulations

Finally, I recommend this Article - a collection of "best practices" and helpful links:
