Unable to copy and paste from one design to another in Capture

I have an engineer that is unable to copy and paste from one design to another in Capture.  He is getting the following error:

ERROR(ORCAP-1658): Unable to perform paste. Some objects on the clip board were not valid in this schematic.

I found the Source Link solution concern updating the cache and was able to get it fixed for him (It did take a while to narrow down the parts in error), but he still thinks something is broken because he has never run in to this before.    He says that the beauty of Capture is that it is not supposed to care about the symbols and it always would simply cut and paste and add new symbols to the design cache.  I am not a Capture guy, so I am wondering if maybe there is some switch that got thrown when we updated to 16.6 that is now making Capture check that the symbols are in sync across designs, or if something fundamentally changed in the last version or two.

Any insight from you Capture gurus?

I was having the same problem in Capture 17.4.  To fix it, find the part or parts that are causing the problem by copying them one at a time.  For the problem parts, go to the Design Cache in the new schematic, right-click the part, run Replace Cache with the part the source schematic is using, make sure "Replace schematic part properties" selected.  Hit OK, then YES. You should now be able to copy the circuit.
