Design Compare - A few clicks to review design changes

Creating a PCB schematic design is an iterative process, and very often, you need to know the changes done in the newer version of the design. As a manager, you may want to review the changes, or even designers themselves may want to check for differences in the current revision versus the old version of the design.

The Compare Design feature in OrCAD Capture is a powerful diff tool to compare two designs. The simple and intuitive user interface of this tool allows you to compare the designs and review the changes. The difference report is an HTML file which can be opened within the tool or independently in a web browser.

The difference report lists the following:

  1. Added or deleted parts, symbols, nets, etc.
  2. Part pin connectivity differences
  3. Property value changes on components/nets
  4. Flat net differences between the designs
  5. Changes in design itself like a new page/folder

Explore this handy utility under the Tools menu in Capture CIS.

    Dear Team DesignTech,
I saw your feature of Compare Designs, and I tried to make it automatic, so I can export an HTML with the design difference from the command line. I tried to do this with this function: OrHandlerDesignDifference::doCompareA found at OrHandlerDesignDifference.tcl file, and I also tried to just "record" my operations to the CAPTURELOG folder, but no xml file was created.
Can you please tell me how to make this operation automatically?
    Thanks a lot!

Is there a way to compare two designs from the command line without the user having to click on something?

    Hi,

The compare design functionality is only available through UI and a corresponding TCL command is not available for now.
