OrCAD - Tip of the Week: Do not lose your work with the Auto backup feature

I have been working on a design for some time. I made a lot of changes in the design, added new parts, and edited properties. But while doing all this, I did not click the Save button. Suddenly, my IT rolled out a mandatory update, and my machine restarted.

Has something like this happened to you as well? How did you recover your work in such a case?

Well, I had enabled Auto backup from the Options menu. A backup copy of my design was getting saved every ten minutes. I chose to create three backups of my design. So, the maximum work I can lose amounts to ten minutes, and I will have a maximum of three backup designs only.

This backup only triggers if manual save was not done in the specified backup interval, ten minutes in my case.

Enable it today.

They get overwritten. If you want you can increase the backups as well.

OK, I did that.  My dialog box looks exactly as above.  Yet I see no backups...  Where are they?  I assumed that the . in the Directory box meant current directory.

yes it must be in current directory with extension .DBK. And backups are only created if you do not manual save of the design after changes.

Hello and thank you for the weekly tips Slight smile

Is there a difference between this auto backup system and the autosave system presented here : https://community.cadence.com/cadence_technology_forums/pcb-design/f/pcb-editor-skill/51442/allegro---tip-of-the-week-do-you-know-that-you-can-have-your-design-autosaved-at-regular-intervals ?

Is one of them prefered over the other ?

Thanks again and have a great week end
