OrCAD Tip of the week: Opening the DSN file directly from the file explorer is leading to PCB editor window and not the capture schematic

Opening the DSN file directly from the file explorer is leading to PCB editor window and not the capture schematic.

From the below image you can see the .DSN file having the icon of the PCB editor and when trying to open the .DSN file, the PCB editor opens instead of the Capture schematic. (Note below steps are for Window 10)

  • To resolve it, Right click on the .DSN file >> Properties >> Change >> More Apps >> Look for another app on this PC.
  • Go to install director (For example C Drive, where the Cadence software is installed) >> Cadence >> SPBxx.x (For Example SPB23.1)
  • Tools >> Bin >> Select Capture.
  • Apply >> OK.
  • Once done the icon for the .DSN file will be changed to Capture symbol (Below image for reference)
