How to see the footprint preview in CIS Explorer?

While working on a schematic, you might want to see the footprints of parts used in the design. For this, it is no longer required to open the .dra file in Allegro. You can see the footprint of the parts present in your database in the Footprint window of CIS Explorer, as shown below.

For this, go to the %HOME%\cdssetup\OrCAD_Capture\23.1.0\ location and open the Capture.ini file in any text editor.

You can specify the path of footprints under the [Allegro Footprints] section against Dir0, Dir1, and so on.

After this is done, you can see the footprint of parts from your database in CIS Explorer.

Regards,

Yugandhar.

Thanks you, yugandhar. I am looking for instructions to see the footprint preview. That's useful.

It can be worth mentioning, that when using 23.1 and mapping a STEP-file to a newly created footprint, the footprint preview feature in CIS is broken. This when using HF004. (I have not tested it using HF005). A work-around is when creating footprints and mapping them to use 22.1 until Cadence has issued a fix for this.
