Allegro X Capture will not launch again after closing the application

Dear Cadence Experts,

I frequently run into an issue where Allegro X Capture 25.1 fails to launch again after closing the software. My operating system is Windows 11 25H2, software build is OrCAD Capture 25.1 S050. This problem is not limited to S050; it also existed in previous releases.

I’ve just found the root‑cause of this issue. Sometimes after closing OrCAD Capture, its background process does not actually exit. Since OrCAD Capture does not allow multiple instances to run simultaneously, there is no response when you try to launch the software again. My screenshot shows that the OrCAD Capture process remains active in Windows Task Manager even after I close the application. Why the process keeps running after the GUI is closed will need further investigation by Cadence experts.

To correct my earlier observation: the background process never terminates automatically, even after a long period of time. I just reproduced this issue and monitored it for more than an hour; the OrCAD…

This is not a bug its a feature ;)

I remember this problem since I started using cadence (2017). It's intermitted for me.

do you have Allegro license? maybe it is worth to switch to system capture?

I might be wrong but I've got feeling the capture has very little improvement while they actually add features to system capture

    Hi Krissn,

Thank you for looking into this issue. I am a bit confused about your comment that this is not a bug. Also, my regular workflow is with Capture, not System Capture. Library building feels quite cumbersome in System Capture and less user‑friendly compared with Capture.

I noted the same problem with Orcad capture 24.1 and also after updating to 25.1. It occurs mostly when both Orcad PCB and Capture were launched. Sometimes the processes close by themself but it takes time. Sometimes when I sync a layout from schematic, those tasks multply themselves, slowing down the PCB editor a lot. Sometimes the only cure is to reboot my workstations.

I gave up trying to raise these kinds of issues to Cadence. But perhaps, if enough people vote for Zhifeng's message Cadence will try to help.
