removing backslashes

Hi

Anyone having any idea how I can replace double backslash characters in a string with single backslash characters?

 Example "\\\\NS2009\\hp color LaserJet 2550 PS" replaced to "\\NS2009\hp color LaserJet 2550 PS"

Best regards

Ole

    Ole,

    Have you tried using rexSubstitute or rexReplace?

    Hi Craig

    Yes, I've tried it together with rexMagix(nil) and without - but it may be my RexCompile string that is wrong.

    I used the following lines (from memory since I'm at home now, so there may be a slight difference in real life :-))

    rexMagic("nil")

    rexCompile("\\")

    rexReplace("\\\\ns2009\\HP LaserJet 2550 PS" "\\" 0)

    - If I substitute \\ with \ in the above line I get an error message

    rexMagic(t)

    Best regards

    Ole

    Don't be fooled by double back slashes:

    strlen("\\\\") => 2 (not 4)

    But what you probably want to do is:

    rexCompile("\\\\")
    rexReplace(str, "/", 0)

    To return "//NS2009/hp color LaserJet 2550 PS"

    Yes, but rexMagic(nil) should turn off the special interpretation of the meta-character "\"

    rexMagic(nil)

    rexCompile("\\") ; should be a string length fo 2 to rexXXX

    rexReplace("\\\\ns2009\\HP Color LaserJet" "\" 0);  errors due to 2nd argument I believe

    rexCompile("\\\\")

    rexReplace("\\\\ns2009\\HP Color LaserJet" "\\" 0);  => "\\ns2009\\HP Color LaserJet"

    So I guess I'm confused as to how rexMagic() really work or there's a bug.

    And there's the confusion. rexMagic won't affect the string you pass to rexCompile. Whatever the state of rexMagic you will be passing one character to rexCompile with rexCompile("\\"). RexMagic doesn't affect Skill code - only the rex commands.
