Same Net Via Spacing?

Dear Cadence Community,

I am using OrCAD PCB Designer 16.3.  I have been asked by my PCB mfg to keep my "min spacing to all Via pads, blind, buried and through, .009". "  Not quite sure what he means but it looks as if vias can't be closer together than 0.009", regardless of net assignment.

So, how do I set up my Constraint Manager to produce DRC errors for vias which are too close together even if they are on the same net?  I can't seem to figure this out.

For example, lets say, in the Same Net Spacing Spreadsheet, I set the Via to Via spacing to 2mm.  Why don't I get a DRC error if I place two vias on the same net too close together?

An earlier thread talked about the Analysis Mode dialog.  I looked through it and found that the "Same Net Spacing" DRC mode was not checked for Vias.  I checked it, exited the Constraint Manager and did a DRC check.  Still no DRC error.

Maybe I am just misunderstanding something.  Can anybody help me clear up this misunderstanding?

  • Hi Allan, I'm not sure if you're activating the checking of these violations. Please go to "Setup>Constraints>Modes..." and select the "Spacing Modes" tab; expand "Vias" tree and be sure it has activated the ones you set in the Constraint Manager. Then in "Same Net Spacing Modes" tab, enable the same vias you've set... I would eneable all in both tabs. Voilà, it should show you the DRC's where the spacing is not 0.009". Hope this is helpful.
