Getting Information from Component DBIDS

MGorecki over 11 years ago

Hello All, I am a very new "newbie" to SKILL.  I'm trying to teach myself, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a handful of "Discrete" components in my database.  I want to be able to grab them and get useful info from each one, like X and Y corrdinates, ref. des., and component name.  I have tried a number of ways to get info from the dbids, but they just return "nil"

;Creates a list of all of the "Discrete" components in  the design
 compDbidList = setof( compList axlDBGetDesign()->components (compList->class=="DISCRETE"))
 ;For each comp dbid in the list, get X, Y and comp name
 foreach( compDbid compDbidList

I have been going through the refrence docs, and looking at other code as well.

Thanks,

Mark

    Hi Mark,

    It appears that you may have posted this question to the wrong forum for your tools - axlDBGetDesign() is not a Custom IC SKILL function, but instead a PCB SKILL function.  Please try the PCB SKILL Forum if this post is not moved to that forum by an Administrator.

    Regards,

    Lawrence.

    Hi Lawrence,

    Like I said, I am new to this.  I am using Windows based , Cadence Allegro Package Designer v16.6.

    I found that in some code and after modifying it a bit, it found the 8 SMD components in my design.

    I may be confused now, I work with BGA products and assumed this would be the correct forum.

    Which forum is the right one for BGA Packaging?

     Thanks,

    Mark

    If this is the correct forum for BGA Packages, then what would be the correct way to get the "Discrete" components in my design AND get information like XY coordinate, component name, ref. des...... from those components for IC Packaging and SiP?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

    You are now in the right place!

    Try this:

    symDbidList = setof(symDbid axlDBGetDesign()->symbols symDbid ->component ->class == "DISCRETE")

    car(symDbidList) ->xy

    car(symDbidList) ->refdes

    Hello Dave,

    Thank you very much.  I really appreciate it.  That worked great.  I tweaked it to work in a foreach:

    ;Creates a list of all of the "Discrete" components in  the design
      symDbidList = setof(symDbid axlDBGetDesign()->symbols symDbid->component->class == "DISCRETE")

      ;For each symbol dbid in the list, get X, Y,ref des, rotation, and comp name
      foreach( symDbid symDbidList
       symLoc = symDbid->xy
       symRefDes = symDbid->refdes
       symRot = symDbid->rotation
       symName = symDbid->name
       printf("%L,  %L,  %L,  %L \n" symLoc symRefDes symRot symName

     I was confused with the different forum group names, but now I know where to call home.  :-)

    Best regards,

    Mark
