QR Barcode

Wild
Wild over 4 years ago

Hi Folks!
New request from the boss, they want to add QR Barcodes to our PCB's.  Did a little searching and I haven't found a solution that works well for 16.6.  Does anyone have ideas?
I can create them as a dxf and bring them in, but not all the shapes are filled in.  I can do this manually, be it's a PIA.

Thanks in advance,

Wild

i usually create a gerber file for bar codes then import it.

for importing dxf files, u need to convert lines to shapes.

TY for the reply.  I understand the dxf conversions and the steps that will need to be done.
I prefer not to edit the gerbers, there always last minute changes that seem to be required after I create the artwork, I would rather do it in Allegro.

There is a tool from FlowCAD, but it costs.....  My boss doesn't like to spend $

The import using logo maker is not usable.

Looks like I will need do the dxf in and creat filed shapes as needed.

    Many thanks,

    Wild

You could give this a try: https://www.mediafire.com/file/9m6lohjnnr1n01h/AllegroQRCodeGenerator172.zip/file

Windows only. QR Code is traditionally dark dots and light gaps but silkscreen is light dots and dark gaps so options to "reverse" and add a border to simulate a "normal" image (either seems to be recognized though). This hasn't been tested in a good while so there may be issues now, security with later Windows 10 builds for example, that weren't apparent when this was last tested.

I tried using the mentioned QR Code Generator and i am getting xxx.dra and xxx.bsm files as output.

The dra file has Package Geometry> Silkscreen_Top as shown here:

My question is how can i convert this into actual qr code that can be read by phone camera right away.

    TIA!

    Hi Jatins,

Could you find solution to this? How could you locate the root directory for QR Code Generator?

The utility needs to know the "root" location of the Cadence SPB Installation, default is C:\Cadence\SPB_17.2 which is checked, but, if the Cadence SPB installation is in another folder, the Configure needs to be used to set the "root" folder location. (The utility adds tools\bin\allegro.exe to the "root" folder to locate the PCB Editor application to create the symbol from the generated script for the QR code)

It can generate the .dra file but now complaining about license and deleting the generated files right after.

The utility generates a script, SCR, file and then starts PCB Editor to create a DRA file from that script, starting from a copy of a "template" DRA file. If there isn't a license available for PCB Editor then the DRA and BSM files won't be created and the "template" DRA file and associated working files will be deleted from the target folder.

I have a license for EDM launcher where I normally use pcb editor and schematics. Is it possible to run it through EDM?

You need a license to start PCB Editor (allegro.exe) to run the script and generate the symbol. You have the template DRA file and SCR (script) file in the folder so you could save those away, then start PCB Editor in your EDM environment, open the template DRA file and then run the script, effectively File>Script, select the SCR file and Replay.

I sounds like your machine isn't configured, at least doesn't have the license source set, until you launch the EDM environment, at which point, the necessary settings are probably available to the EDM session on your machine but probably not to "any" session on you machine, like being able to start PCB Editor "standalone", from the Start Menu or a double-click on the allegro.exe file in the installation.
