Differential Impedance Calculation

WOLKO22
WOLKO22 over 2 years ago

Dear Community,

I used the differential impedance calculator in the x-section dialog and also the allegro impedance workflow a few times. When we compare that with other calculators on the web and trustworthy tools like Saturn toolkit, we face lots of different results. Saturn to Allegro differ more than 10%, which would result in huge trace width and spacing rules.

Where are these differences come from?

Best regards,

Wolfgang

    Have look at this document:

    /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/28/CDN2006_5F00_Users_5F00_Paper_5F00_Cross_5F00_Section.pdf

Saturn can be used to check something quickly but is, for me, innacurate

    Hi,

I have calculated a Microstrip Line in AppCAD and in Saturn. For example the impedance of a line with 1,5 mm width, conductor hight of 0,73 mm and dielectric constant of 4,5 is arround 47,2 Ohm. The Cross section calculates the impedance of 55,4 Ohm. This value is also appears in the Constrait Manager.

At least I have calculated using Analysis Workflow for Impedance. Hear 45,6 Ohm was calculated. This value is much closer to the Saturn value.

Changing of Etch Factor dont' brings any changes.

Any ideas, why the values are different?

    Best regards

    JuriV
