Is ECAD-MCAD collaboration possible between OrCAD 17.4 and Catia V5?

If it is possible what is needed to make it happen and are there any tutorials/user guides on how to set it up?

Years ago, I worked for a shop using everything but Solidworks trying to get them to abandon P*DS.  Google isn't showing anything for IDX with Catia.  Large companies (laptops) use Siemens NX with a third-party IDX interface related to Autodesk Maya.

Can you import Solidworks subassemblies in Catia V5?

There is a complete solution available for Solidworks:   EMA-EDA's CadSync.  True bidirectional mechanical design.   Start a board assembly in SW, add mechanical parts (mtg holes/connectors/indicators), import it to Allegro/Orcad using CadSync (the mechanism to include refdes properties from SW.)  Import a schematic to it.

I own SW professional but I think it works with standard SolidWorks so you won't need CircuitWorks.

Catia V5 is the only MCAD tool we use here.

Do Cadence people chime in on questions or is it strictly users here?

SPB 17.4 is quite old and as far as I know it will be end of support soon (Just have a look at the Lifetime documents in the Cadence support portal)

CATIA V5 does only support IDF 3.0. There is no support for IDX and there is no plan for it as far I know.

3DEXPERIENCE CATIA does support IDF and IDX and is working very well with Allegro through the file based IDX based collaboration.

Please note that there is a press release from this year about a partnership between CADENCE and DASSAULT SYSTEMES.

    https://www.cadence.com/en_US/home/company/newsroom/press-releases/pr/2024/cadence-and-dassault-systemes-unveil-the-first-cloud-enabled.html

    Hope this helps

    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your reply, I had a feeling that was the case, unfortunately we are at the mercy of what our customers use as far as Catia goes.

I have heard through the grapevine that we are planning to switch to 3DEXPERIENCE Catia, but it will probably not be until sometime in 2025 so that should make the ECAD/MCAD collaboration a bit easier for some projects.

OrCAD is easier, we should be able to upgrade that with no issue, one out of two for now ain't bad I guess. Slight smile
