update layout creates a Rectangle "Board Geometry/Top_Room" that cannot be removed

This is my first time designing my PCB with Cadence tools. I placed several parts on the PCB design, then I went back to the schematic to make some changes to the connectors. When I came back to the PCB editor and selected "update layout", the editor added all the parts that were not yet placed in a rectangle region named "1". The rectangle cannot be deleted with Edit->Delete command. Can anyone give some hints on how to remove it?

Hi JC, to remove rooms please use menu: Setup > Outline > Room Outline.

To setup the board outline you should also invoke the Design Outline setup tool from the setup menu before placing any components

Hi John, thanks for the reply. I did try this approach but the software doesn't seem to recognize it as a room. I saw the rectangle was assigned a "FIXED" property automatically which I cannot figure out how to edit.

Upon syncing with the schematic, the rectangle is added together with the parts as a group called "1_QP" but disbanding the group won't remove the rectangle.

Same problem with Orcad 24.1 S003.

The bug occurred when in capture I sync the PCB with the option "Place Always" enabled.

Impossible to delete because an unknown parent is FIXED.

Only solution is to delete board and start with version prior to PCB sync" And this time redo sync with the capture option "Place Never"

Hotfix 005 was released a short while ago.

Anyone tried the (failing) procedure above with this HF installed?

    This still happens with 005.

Can delete the room also not through the Room Outline window. It shows it has fixed propery.

    Database check also didn't,

I have encountered the same situation as you. Have you resolved it now?

Hi Timor, do you want to send me a copy of your pcb database for this so we can troubleshoot. I don't have a copy of this from the original query as requested. I will send you a PM for this.
