update layout creates a Rectangle "Board Geometry/Top_Room" that cannot be removed

This is my first time designing my PCB with Cadence tools. I placed several parts on the PCB design, then I went back to the schematic to make some changes to the connectors. When I came back to the PCB editor and selected "update layout", the editor added all the parts that were not yet placed in a rectangle region named "1". The rectangle cannot be deleted with Edit->Delete command. Can anyone give some hints on how to remove it?

Hi JC, to remove rooms please use menu: Setup > Outline > Room Outline.

To setup the board outline you should also invoke the Design Outline setup tool from the setup menu before placing any components

Hi John, thanks for the reply. I did try this approach but the software doesn't seem to recognize it as a room. I saw the rectangle was assigned a "FIXED" property automatically which I cannot figure out how to edit.

Upon syncing with the schematic, the rectangle is added together with the parts as a group called "1_QP" but disbanding the group won't remove the rectangle.

Hi JC, sorry but I cannot repeat this behaviour up to now. Can you please check your schematic parts for the room properties. This enable you to pre-nominate room at the schematic level prior to placement. You may try removing this property from the schematic parts and updating the layout once more  More information on this property can be found here: support.cadence.com/.../ArticleAttachmentPortal

Hi JC, I have been discussing with a colleague - can you just please confirm the schematic tool you are using? I presume it is OrCAD Capture. You can check this using  the menu Help > About...

    Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. I'm using OrCAD X Pro Plus Capture CIS 24.1 P001. I didn't use the room property in this design so I don't think that's causing the problem.

When I sync the PCB with the schematic(i.e. "update layout"), if I go by the default setting which is "Design Sync Settings -> Placement -> Place Changed Components -> If Changed", the "room" with the unplaced parts appears. I can bypass it by not letting Allegro place unplaced components right now, but there should be a way to remove the "room" placed by the default behavior right?

Currently the forum doesn't let me upload images. I'll try again later.
