Display Your Know How: Thermal Relief

Can you think of any design methods to enable the removal of thermal reliefs, such as shown in the following scenario?

Thermal relief traces

 Thermal reliefs are widely used to improve assembly soldering. However, after soldering is complete these copper features generally do not favour the electrical or thermal performance of the circuit. So what if we could remove them?

Simply suggest any ideas how we could do this in the comments below. Any alternatives and opinions are welcome!

    And the final and 3rd solution we would like to suggest for this quandary is Press-fit-pins. 

    This pin type is mechanically widened in the contact area; when inserted into a plated-hole, the side edges of the pin are mechanically compressed. This holds the pin into place without the need for any solder. The electrical contact is made by physical contact mating.  

    This assembly technology requires no solder. Therefore, the need for thermal reliefs is removed completely and "full contact" can be used for copper shapes connected to this pin holes.
