Hi,

I searched through but could not find.  Wonder if anyone comes across the skills command to add a text file to allegro database.

Appreciate your help.

Regards,
Stella

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. I may not have fully understood the usage of axlCreateAttachment. I would like to read in a text file to my allegro database by having the user interactive selecting a location. Can this be done so using axlCreateAttachment?

    Regards,
    Stella

    Stella,

You can download a shareware program from the CDN website, originally uploaded on Sept 13 2005,
called AAdd_AttachFile. It will allow you to attach and detach files from Allegro BRD files, and it works
with ASCII files as large as 78 mega bytes.

The latest version (1.0G) can also be found on the following link:

    http://www.coppercad.com/AAdd_AttachFile.html

    Description--------------------------------------------------------------

Allegro allows small ASCII files to be attached directly to the
BRD file. CopperCAD's AAdd_AttachFile program, takes large ASCII
files and breaks them up into small chunks, then attaches the
small chunks to the Allegro BRD file, one at a time.

AAdd_AttachFile may be used to attach ASCII text files to Allegro
BRD files. Important files can be attached to your design, reducing
the possibility that they may be lost or misplaced.

Maximum individual file size that can be attached is 78 Mega bytes.
Maximum number of characters in the file name is 26. Files must
be pure ASCII, binary files, or mixed ASCII-Binary files cannot be
    attached to the BRD file.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried out the skills program. It is a great program. I am sorry that I have specified my requirement clearly. What I am looking is much simplier, I want to add a text file into the physical board, so that the user can see it as text on one of the subclasses. Thanks anyway.
Just one minor problem I found while running the skills, I followed the steps to install the program but when I type ctrl+A in the command window, it gives an error "command not found". Evoking the program through skills is fine.

    Regards,
    Stella

    Stella,
I found the answer on sourcelink....

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    1. Add>Text
    2. On the Options tab, select the desired Class and set the subclass, size, etc..
    3. Pick the text location (Orientation of txt file is A1 block of the xls sheet).
    4. Right Mouse Click in the work area.
    5. Select Read From File.
    6. Browse to the file created from the xls File Save As and select it.

The text will be present in the board file. If other graphics are needed, you will have
    to add them manually.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
