Why to use Allegro System Capture – Creating a Hierarchical Block

Our previous posts covered importing and editing a hierarchical block in System Capture. This post looks at creating a new hierarchical block.

A newly created block in System Capture is a blank block with a single schematic sheet in it.

Open the schematic sheet of the new block, draw the schematic, and add interface ports. The ports connected to nets in the underlying schematic would appear as pins on the hierarchical block symbol.

To create a new block, choose File > New > Block.

A new block named block1 is created and is available in the Project Viewer.

Open the block sheet and complete the block schematic. Connect the required interface ports.

Right-click on the block in Project Viewer and select Re-generate Symbols to update the block symbol with interface pins.
