Why to use Allegro System Capture – Adding Multiple Levels of Hierarchy

Our previous posts covered importing, editing, and creating a hierarchical block in System Capture. This post looks at the multi-level hierarchical design.

System Capture supports multiple levels of hierarchy, and there is no limit on the number of hierarchy levels.

Let us consider a three-level hierarchical design with blocks – low, mid, and top.

Import or create the three hierarchical blocks in the root design. Then, instantiate the lower-level block in the mid-level block. Similarly, instantiate the mid-level block, which contains the lower block, in the top block.

To instantiate blocks in the design, do the following steps:

  • Open the mid-level block schematic sheet.
  • Right-click on the low-level block symbol in the Project Viewer and select Place Schematic Block.

  • Instantiate the low-level block in the mid-level schematic canvas and choose the appropriate packaging option.

  • Likewise, instantiate the mid-level block in the top-level schematic canvas and choose the appropriate packaging option.

You would notice all three levels of hierarchy in the Project Viewer when you place the top-level block in the root design.
