Shape fill DRC errors

archive
archive over 16 years ago

I have an 8 layer design that has drc errors after updating the shapes.  For some reason, the clearance rules are not being followed in some areas.  This seems to be random.  I did a database check but that did not help.

 Any ideas??

First thing to check is that the layers are positive and the shapes are all dynamic and connected to the required nets.

Then go to Display>Status and see if there are any out of date shapes, left-click on the coloured button to the left of the status to get a report of the shapes.

I have done all of this but still have the errors.  The strange thing is, these errors were not there yesterday.  I made a change on 1 layer, updated the shapes and the errors show up.

It would be a good idea to send your design to Cadence (or the local support) for them to investigate.

Two things come to my mind that I have seen before.

    1. When dynamic shapes were first introduced, it would have spacing errors randomly on the brd file. If the spacing rule was 10mils the actual value would be 9.999, therefore a DRC is there. If you place a dynamic oversize property on the element in mind or the shape that it having the problem or .001 mil, the DRC is resolved. I have not had to do that for quite a while now.

    2. Depending on the complexity of the plane in question, the shape needs to be split so that with all of the reliefs that Allegro has to create would be simplified.

Did you try something like that?

The support folks looked into it and found a bug.  I did place an oversize on the shapes and it fixed them.
