Synchronizing DE HDL and part table file

Hi all,

Is there a method to synchronize Design Entry HDL schematic and part table file other than Part Manager.

Assume that you have a stock controlled part table file and the stock information is changed according to the volumes of the component.

PART_NUMBER    IN_STOCK_QUANTITY

RES_ANY_0402     1000

If you have used this RES_ANY_0402 in schematic and then your stock program is changed the PART TABLE FILE information  from 1000 to 1500. There is a mismatch in Part manager. What I want to do is to update the schematic instances according to  part table file.

That can be done in part manager with update instances but this is time consuming and you have to enter them by one by.

I wonder if there is a script or something helpful to do this in a simple manner. I wish the PART MANAGER has a one button to update all the mismatch properties.

Thanks for your helps.

I have tried this in a different situation than your's but see if Global Part Replace helps.  You'd select an instance of the part in schematic to be replaced with same part.  Let us know if that helps.

    Hi Khurana,

Sorry for my late answer. I have tried your solution too. I think that solution is also time consuming, but works. Anyway There is no short form of updating easily from PTF I think. May be in later revisions of Cadence DEHDL they are going to improve this issue.

    Thank you.

     Hi ahmetozsoy,

Be warned that you can only replace a component within the same PTF cell if you're using 16.2 in Windows Mode. I've reported this issue to Cadence already.

Although I've seen this feature requested several times on these forums, and I've certainly complained about it to Cadence, I am not aware of any plans to add this feature into Cadence. If you use the software I think it's obvious that even Part Manager from the XL license is painful and a more automated "replace from PTF" feature should be a high priority. Maybe some day...

    Khurana,

Do you know of any way to automate running Global Component Replace? I know how to launch the form from the Command Window, but is there a list of switches to perform the entire replacement operation without having to use the form?

Yes, I do believe that Global Component Replace can be run by creating a script.  Refer to globalChangeDelete.pdf at <Cadence_1602_install_dir>\tools\fet\globalChange\help and look at pages 31, 32, and 33.

     Hi Khurana,

It appears _globalChange can be used to edit/delete properties of placed parts, but it does not directly help when you want to update/add properties of a placed part with the properties of a PTF part. Am I wrong?

I can imagine searching the PTF to find the desired part, creating a _globalChange command file, and then running _globalChange on a per part basis, but it seems very round-about. Is there a simpler way? Is this what you had in mind? May I ask how you have used _globalChange in the past?
