Allegro/SIP/MCM FREE Physical Viewers 16.3 released!

Grab it at www.cadence.com/.../downloads.aspx. You will need to sign in with your Cadence account.

I don't want this to sound like an ad since I'm just another regular user of SPB, so here are some customizations/capabilities that I have been using or just discovered for the free viewer:

-Create an ALLEGRO_PCBENV env var on your system. The path of this env var will point to a directory (which you must create) analogous to the \pcbenv folder for Allegro. At the ALLEGRO_PCBENV location, you can put:
  •  myfavorites.txt to control the color192 form and custdatatips.cdt for custom datatips; exactly the same files as for Allegro.
  • An env file, which has only a subset of the full Allegro env. Mostly by trial and error I have found out what commands, or series of commands, can and cannot be used in the viewer. For instance, set viewpath works in the viewer and using that I am able to access site-level COLOR files which our manufacturing team uses to view different "layer sets" of a board.

-allegro_free_viewer.men at C:\Program Files\Cadence Design Systems\Allegro Free Physical Viewers 16.3\share\pcb\text\cuimenus to customize the Free Physical Viewer menu. As SKILL can't be used in the Free Physical Viewer, you must modify a MEN file instead of being able to use the new axlUIMenu* functions as with Allegro.

-You can put the same allegro.strokes file as used by Allegro at C:\Program Files\Cadence Design Systems\Allegro Free Physical Viewers 16.3\share\pcb\text, overwriting the default Free Physical Viewer strokes file, to add/change strokes in the viewer.

With these customizations in place, I feel much more comfortable using the viewer than the "out of the box" user experience.

I'm sure there are plenty other ways to modify and/or enhance the Free Physical Viewer, so if you have other tips you'd like to share let us know!

I get the same 1925 Error and under the same circumstances. Is there any resolve to this?
