16.5 Licensing – What is included/not included with a seat of Allegro PCB Designer?

Has anyone looked into the new Allegro 16.5 product offerings?  In reviewing the product matrix the higher tier Allegro PCB Design XL has been broken down into multiple options (High Speed / Miniaturization) to work with Allegro PCB Designer 16.5 (AKA Allegro PCB Performance Option L).  I am OK with this change because it does give you a little more flexibility. 

My issue is related to Allegro Design Authoring (DE-HDL) which according to the product matrix is included with the new Allegro PCB Designer 16.5 license.   When I open up Project Manager and select the Allegro PCB Designer license I do have the ability to run either Design Entry HDL or Allegro PCB Designer (Layout) but when I open the schematic and the layout at the same time it checks out two Allegro PCB Designer licenses. 

Maybe I am selecting the wrong product (license) during startup or maybe it is just the way it works in 16.5 but I cannot see tying up two Allegro PCB Designer licenses when all I want to do is cross probe between DE HDL and Allegro.

Has anyone seen this using a new 16.5 license and could possible shed some light on the subject?

    The PCB_design_studio license you see in the license.log is a UHD license. Both Allegro and ConceptHDL check-out this license. Allegro without any options also check-outs an Allegro_studio license which is a J (or Job) license. UHD licenses, permit under a single license check-out, multiple executables to run on system.You can run multiple ConceptHDLs on the sytem, consuming only 1 license.

    For UHD (User,Host,Display), it is misleading to count "OUT" states in the license logfile for the number of licenses in use. Instead you should use the provided license utilities. For example (using UNIX), the following should report 1 license in use:

        lmstat -c <port>@<host> -f PCB_design_studio

    This might be a hotfix related issue. With s014, I started Project Manager with an Allegro Designer (Layout) license from the list, I have both DE HDL and PCB Editor running, the license manager currently reports Allegro_studio, Allegro_performance and PCB_design_studio features checked out which would amount to a single "Allegro Performance L" suite in old money.

    Thanks for the details.  I was looking at the amount of Allegro_performance licenses that we being reported with lmstat. It appeared that it was reporting two instances. 

    I started Project Manager and selected the Allegro Designer (Layout) license, ran lmstat and this is what is being reported when I open up both Allegro and Concept HDL:

    oldmouldy - I am running s011, I am downloading the s014 hotfix now to see if it corrects theissue.

    Allegro_performance is part of the Allegro PCB Design product. It is a "J" licese that will get checked by allegro.exe along with Allegro_studio and PCB_design_studio. It is present to allow one to run with a 16.5 license file, PCB Performance L with older releases (e.g. 16.3).
