Creating a Placement Keepout for through hole components

Does anyone have an idea on how to create a placement keep out for through hole components only?  My dilema:  We will place all components on the bottom side of the board.  In one area I do not want any leads sticking through on the top side of the board.  If I put a placement keep out on the bottom side of the board it will keep out surface mount parts too, these are allowed. 

The only way I can see this working is to set a height restriction on the top side, but then I would have to build the lead length into all of our through hole components.  Before taking on that task I would like to see if someone out there has a better solution :-)

    Let me see if I understand what you are trying to do.

    You will place all parts on the bottom side. This includes SM and TH parts. On the top side there are areas where you do not want the leads from the TH parts to protrude into. Correct?

    If this is the case, then can you just put a component keep out on the top side where you don't want the leads to come through?

    You do understand the dilemma J

    The component keep out on the top will only give you an error if the component is on the top layer.  Since our part is on the bottom layer it will be ignored.  I do think this would have worked if we had built a height into each footprint model with the lead length.  Since we did not, the placement keep out top will not see a problem.

    Perhaps the easy way to do this is from a manual perspective.

    When you place your components on the back side of the board the through hole components will have pads on the top side, so knowing this why not use one of the Fab layer to simply draw an outline of the area you dont want TH parts in and use this as a visual que so you will know not to place parts there.

    From an automated perspective you could setup some rooms and then have specific components assigned to those rooms but this will be a lot more grunt work.

    Thank you for the suggestion.  This is pretty much what we have right now.  I was trying to make it an error, in case the note was overlooked.

    I have opened a ticket with Cadence to see if they might have a work around.
