Unable to open .sch file in Orcad Lite 16.6.

I have a .sch file generated from Questa Prime (Mentor).

I am trying to open it  with ORCAD so that I can edit the same. However, when I follow the below steps all I get is a text file describing signal names, color, orientation etc. with no errors.

How can i view the symbol file in ORCAD? Kindly provide suggestions

  • Why do you think that saving a file type from one vendor would work with tools from another vendor just because they share the same file extension? Any vendor / application could choose a file extension with no regard to its use by another vendor.

    Agree with your reasoning.

    However, Questa also creates a schematic view and allows to save the file in .sch format with no further use of the .sch file in Questa.

    If the same file can be opened in orcad/similar tools it would enable editing of the schematic which unfortunately Questa does not allows.

    If a tool allows to save in .sch format, I believe the file must be re-usable in some other tool and would save enormous time in recreating the schematic from scratch.

    I would really appreciate inputs for reusing .sch file from Questa for further editing.

  • Why not ask the authors of Questa Prime what the intention of providing the .sch output format is?

    Can Questa schematics be imported into Mentor own tools : PADS Powerlogic , DxDesigner ?

    If they can be imported into Mentor own tools, then Elgris Technologies (elgris.com) can help translate such schematic to OrCAD Capture.
