Renaming multiple signal names in Design Entry HDL 16.6

I have a few signals that I need to change part of the name of each signal. The signals are currently named J3_PIN_1, J3_PIN_2 ... up to J3_PIN_108. I need to replace the "J3" part of the name with "P4."

Since its over a hundred signal names I was hoping there would be a quick way to do this as a batch job with something like Find/Replace tools in other software. So far I've been searching and came up with nothing. Is there an easy way to do this in Design Entry HDL or do I need to manually edit each individual name?

Thanks,

Rui

It's been a long time since I've been on Concept (aka DE HDL) but it used to save the schematic pages as ASCII. The original tool was Unix based and there was a script for everything...that said I think you should look for an ASCII file in your project directory (for each page) and then you can edit it with a text editor.

This would need to be done for each page, but it's fairly quick.

In the DEHDL console window, type - "find SIG_NAME=J3_PIN*". Then type "change A". They type CTRL-E. This launches a text editor and you can use the find/replace capability to change J3 with P4. Save the page. Execute the same steps for all required pages.

There's also a TCL script that may be used. You can contact our Cadence Customer Support team - we should be able to help.

I tried looking for the correct ASCII file but had no luck. Tried changing the signal names in any file I could find In the project directory with the names in it and still no luck. Thanks for the help though there probably might be a way to do it this way just haven't been able to locate the correct file.

Jerry, the method you suggested worked perfectly and only takes a minute or so for each page, this will save me lots of tedious time editing the names. When I have some time I will start looking into scripting to simplify takes like these.

    Thanks Again!
