3D Step file creation in Allegro?

Is there a way to create a 3D part step file in Allegro during a part creation?
If relying on other software tools is required then when will this feature be incorporated?

Thank you-

Allegro will use the place bounds to create the STEP file if an actual STEP file is not used.  This is what I would call "Lego" blocks.

Any detailed type of STEP with pins/plastic/metal is not possible thru Allegro.  However if you detail your placebound correctly you can get a reasonable model.

This has been available since (I think...) hotfix 50 of 16.5 release.

Thank you and that is what I have noticed.  I am using another tool for the .step function when creating the component.  BTW have you been able to see the silk screen when in 3D?
I am using both 16.6 and 17.2 and do not see any silk screen in 3D.  When I see the awesome 3D and mechanical drawings in Altium, I think..why not Allegro.

    Thank you

I know this does not answer your question but here's a great resource:

    http://www.3dcontentcentral.com

There are many models there that can be downloaded in various formats.

No silkscreen -- that too me is a ding against Cadence's implementation of 3D view. I too have Altium and prefer its 3D viewing and export way over Allegro.
