ORCAD CIS Database

Hi

I have recently upgraded my OrCAD release from 16.6 to 17.2. In 16.6 release, i have been using CIS feature and placing the parts from our .mdb database. I was just wondering if i have to do the same for this 17.2 release because i didnt find any database for our components in the CIS Explorer in 17.2

Is there is a feature in 17.2 release which can be used to share the same CIS database as for 16.6?

Thanks

You need to get the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable, this will allow a 64 bit ODBC connection to a 32 bit Microsoft Access, or Microsoft Excel, resource so that the resource can be available to both 64 bit and 32 bit applications. Note that, if you are running Office 2010, you will need to manage some DLLs since the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable has no service packs applied but your Office 2010 installation almost certainly will have. Search the Microsoft site for the necessary installers and other information.

Thanks for the reply...but the actual problem here is that the Data Source which is available in 16.6 release in Orcad CIS Explorer is not seen in the 17.2 release when i updated it recently.
I was wondering if i have to setup an ODBC Data Source and a configuration file(.dbc) again for this new 17.2 release separately.
    Thnaks

Yes, you will need to setup a new ODBC datasource and configuration file for 17.2 because CIS is now 64-bit and won't be able to use the existing 32-bit datasource. You will need to get the 64-bit ODBC drivers for Microsoft datasources and use those to configure a 64-bit ODBC connection to your database before creating another DBC file to use it.

    Hi again

I am trying to setup CIS Database in Orcad 17.2 and it didnt went well. I have 32-bit MS Office Installed on 64-bit machine and as 17.2 Version is a pure 64-bit, i tried to follow this link to install the 64-bit ODBC Driver such that it can work properly:- support.cadence.com/.../cos
I can set up the Data Source Name without any trouble but when i try to run Database Configuration Wizard to create the .cfg file in OrCAD, It is giving me the following error:-
    ODBC Error Code: -1
Description: The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application
Shouldn't following the above link resolve the problems for OrCAD?
    Thanks

Most likely, you are getting the message because the selected datasource is 32-bit and you are trying to configure Capture CIS 17.2 which is expecting a 64 ODBC connection. One way to ensure that you have the required ODBC source is to name the source to reflect the architecture, like "datasource64". Also, only configure "System DSN" for your ODBC datasources for use with Capture CIS. (The architecture could be the other way around but it's less likely that you will be configuring 16.6 from your previous posts)
