Getting alt_symbols into existing design

We have a layout that is complete, but the footprints need to be changed to the alt_symbols called out in Orcad. Importing the netlist as usual leaves the existing footprints as they are. How can we tell it to replace the footprints with the alt_symbol without having to start all over with component placement? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

    Hi,

You can switch to the ALT_SYMBOL for several components from Placement Edit Application mode.

     - RMB > Application Mode > Placement Edit
     - Hover over component and RMB > Alternate symbol > All instances > <alt symbol name>

You can also window select a group of components and use the RMB to switch over to the alternate symbols based on the placed symbol name.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike Catrambone

Some elegant ways of accomplishing ALT_Symbol trade out in Allegro. This is great. Now to a caveat, if I use alt_symbols in capture how can you back annotate to capture to make the alt_symbol
    the primary symbol.

There may be a way to do it, though it is not obvious. My thinking was that when I would back annotate from the board that had the alt_symbol instead of the primary used, capture would switch the
alt to be the physical primary symbol. I guess the issue is that basically the board and schematic are out of sync with respect to primary footprints. How to resolve.

    Any thoughts ?

    Thanks

    Paul.
