New File...Open Dialog Box?

Hey guys...I searched the forum and came up empty. If this has been discussed and answered before, please, be gentle. Slight smile

I am running v17.2 S048 and have new dialog boxes. The one in particular that gives me trouble is the File..Open dialog. It now no longer seems to be a Win10 dialog box, instead it seems to be an Allegro specific dialog box.

New v17.2 S048 File...Open Dialog

The old dialog box looked like this:

This gives me trouble because many of my designs reside on network servers and are not easy to access anymore. Plus, it just looks wonky and I don't like it! Disappointed

Is this a simple setting change or is this the new normal?

The old file browser window can be restored by setting the environmental variable "new_filedialog_disable". The variable can be can set in the env file and is currently not available in User Preferences within the tool. To set the variable in env file, open the file with any text editor and add the following line at the end:

    set new_filedialog_disable

Note that you will lose the rather nice preview feature of the new file browser if you revert. You might like to try with the new browser for a while to see if you can get used to it.

About the nice preview, yes it is a nice improvement but it is slow with large (>30MB) designs. The old preview is much faster and normally sufficient to browse through a list of designs.

Further, the new open dialog shows the mapped network drives incorrectly (HF48). How to tell which drive is which?

Also the 'default windows' copy/paste, new folder etc is not working in the new windows.

For now we stick with the old bowser and hopefully Cadence won't decide to remove the new_filedialog_disable option......

Or - File a change request with Cadence and suggest that the new browser is improved with the copy-paste and mapped drive features...

The issue is already reported. But this is not really my point that I wanted to make. Why to change something that was (imho) working good and releasing it without testing its functionality? (like the change directory during netlist load bug in HF47, it must be related to this change)

Browsing for a file is quite important and the current shortcomings should have been noticed by the developer(s) that implemented this new open window. Anyhow, is this not a default class (and its functionality) of the QT graphics interface?

Lately I've seen more of these 'new' additions in Allegro which seem not to be tested for their functionality. Like the HF48 GUI font size difference between Orcad and Allegro licensing. Why....?
