Composite layers?

archive
archive over 18 years ago

Hello,
I'm using Allegro PCB Designer. I have problem making production files (Manufacture->Artwork  - makes .art files). When the factory which is going to make the PCBs opens these ART files they are composites (not single layer). The parameters for the art files are: Gerber RS274X, Leading Zeros, Format 3-Integer 5-Decimal places.
The only way I found to convert composite to layer is with another pcb design program.
Is it possible to do it from Allegro??

Raster (RS274X) format artwork creates multiple (composite) layers per the spec.

You didn't mention which CAM station your vendor is using. You may want to look at Sourcelink solution11088890 titled: "RS274X artwork is split into different layers in CAM350 if split planes were used in Allegro". It describes a couple of CAM350 options that may possibly help.

    My vendor is using CAM350.
So it seems that the composite layers are not my problem...

You could use Gerber 6x00 format. This is what I use along with CAM350 and have no problems. Gerber data comes in on single layers. Vendors haven't complained either. I'm currently using 15.5.1 S060. Make sure you change the artwork format in Global Dynamic Shape Parameters to match.

I experimented with RS274X format in version 14 (I believe) and ran into some strange anomolies where random plane voids would partially invert creating a half circle void instead of a full circle and thus creating a short. I'm not sure if Allegro was outputting the data that way or if CAM350 was reading the data in wrong, but Gerber 6x00 works for me and I'm sticking with it.

    Hi,
You can correct importing RS274X settings in CAM350 via File > Setup > Photoplotter > RS274X > "Convert Composite to Single Layer".
