How to generate a symbol (.olb) for a third party PSpice model (.lib) ?

To simulate a part in Capture-PSpice flow you need .olb file for the component symbol to create schematic and its corresponding model file (.lib) for simulating the part.

If you have a third party PSpice model (.lib) file and need to create a symbol for the same, you can do it using model editor. To generate a symbol for a .lib file follow below steps:

  1. Invoke PSpice model editor
  2. Go to File -> Model Import Wizard [Capture]…
  3. Browse to the .lib file for which you need to create symbol (.olb) in “Enter Input Model Library” section
  4. “Destination symbol Library“ section will be auto-populated with the same location to generate the .olb file

        5. Click Next
        6. Here you can select any existing symbol with same no. of pin count to generate the symbol or you can just click Finish to get a generic symbol created by the tool.
        7. You will get a log window with the status: 0 Error messages, 0 Warning messages. Click OK

You have generated a symbol(.olb) for a spice model(.lib), what if you have an existing capture symbol and want to associate a PSpice model to that symbol ?

Check out below link for detailed post having steps to associate a PSpice model to an existing or new part created in Capture.
