How do you analyze the effect of temperature on your circuit?

Environmental factors like temperature can impact the performance of any circuit. It is important to simulate the circuit behavior for different temperature ranges as per their expected usage.

How do you simulate the impact of temperature on your circuit?

  1. Performing manual calculations of the circuit for different temperatures.
  2. Running multiple simulations by changing component values for temperature impact.
  3. Use temperature sweep option in PSpice.
  4. Any other approach.

PSpice lets you run the simulation at different temperatures or across a list of temperature values to simulate the impact of change in temperature.

We would like to know how useful you found this Parametric Sweep feature in PSpice. Your comments will help readers to understand and explore the various approaches.

    Hello,

for sure this feature is useful. But of course the results highly depend on the models used. The models must support temperature depedencies. Often it not obvious if they do support temperature depedency. If they don't, simulation results for different temperatures are the same and one thinks temperature has no impact, which might be wrong. The difficulty is to find out if the models support temperature dependency.

    Greeting!

    Volker.

One can always check for temperature coefficients like TC1,TC2 or TCE when dealing with resistor or capacitors. Similarly for diodes TBV1, TBV2, TRS1 are few temperature parameters which should be defined in the model. For other devices like FETs, you can always refer to PSpice reference guide which lists all the required temperature model parameters.
