Sigrity – Tip of the week: How to include Ferrite Bead model in PowerSI

Ferrite beads are used in electronic circuits to suppress high-frequency electronic noise. They are used as a passive low-pass filter by dissipating radio-frequency energy as heat by design. The ferrite creates an inductor with a low Q factor. Ferrite beads do block high frequencies, but only in a specific band.

A design that uses a ferrite bead to improve noise filtering must consider specific circuit characteristics and the frequency range to block. If you have ferrite beads in a design, you can include them in PowerSI by copying and pasting the content of subckt in MOD into Component Manager.

For example, the following image shows a ferrite bead used for EMI suppression.

The ferrite bead can be represented as a SPICE Circuit.
