PDN: Series Resistor

Hi,

I have simulated the power plane in Sigrity Optimize-PI. Actually, The design looks like the below image. In the simulation, I considered two different nets (Vout-1 and Vout-2) and assigned all bulk and de-caps models but did not assign any model for the resistor and simulated and got the below result.

Simulated Results

The question is what impact of the resistor? is it shorted between the two different nets (Vout-1 and 2) or included the actual resistor 3.4 mOhm value in the simulation? Please confirm how it works.

    Hi,

Just following up on the above post. Is there any update on this? I'm waiting for your reply.

    Thank you!

    Hi Gajendiran,

Assuming you put the port on the load and looking at Z parameter graph at DC, the Resistor model is included in the analysis.

    Hi Gajendiran,

Did you check the component manager to see if the model was defined? Do you have a picture of what it looks like?

A default value will not be assigned by OPI.

    Regards,

    Shiva Shankar M

    Hi Shiva,

Does components manager mean discrete option?

    Hi Gajendiran,

The green check mark shows that the model for the resistor R141 is included in the simulations. Also, the screenshot you have shared is not a component manager, however you can see this from the Discrete(optional) in the workflows. Component Manager can be invoked from Setup > Component Manager.

    Regards,

    Mahima

The resistor model will be assigned by default? And resistor value is based on the layout value?

The resistor model might have come from the board schematic/layout, which gets translated into OPI.

OptimizePI will not assign any default models to any component.

    Hi Jeswanth,

    Thank you for your reply!

And also, I need to add the VRM model of the regulator, which is not similar to the Sigrity equivalent circuit.

    Sigrity equivalent circuit:

    Regulator:

Can the above regulator VRM model be added to the optimize PI?

just following up on the above query. Is it possible to assign a custom VRM model to the regulator in Optimize PI simulation?
