error while running spectre

Bhavsh
Bhavsh over 15 years ago

When i tried to run the spectre for a design ,the following error is coming  in CIW.

" *Error* Unable to locate 'spectre' executable in the specified path.
To set the correct path, use setShellEnvVar() in CIW".

I used ADEL in IC610,i thought this error is due to path in simulator/directory/host in analog design environment window,,but it may not be the cause for it..I am not getting exactly which path to change??.

How can i solve this??

It is referring to your UNIX path. You need to have access to an MMSIM installation (e.g. MMSIM71). Then if you're using csh, it would be:

    set path = (/path/to/MMSIM71/tools.lnx86/bin $path)

or with sh/bash/ksh it would be:

    PATH=/path/to/MMSIM71/tools.lnx86:$PATH

    before starting virtuoso.

Spectre is not in the IC stream any more; it's in a separate stream, MMSIM along with UltraSim and APS.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

I set the path using the commands given by you,but stil its giving the error,..error is

"*Error* The 'spectre' executable that you are using is an older version.
Use MMSIM60 or later version of Spectre with this release.
To check the spectre version, run 'spectre -W'. "

But i installed new version MMSIM71,.After using the  'spectre -W'.:its showing "sub-version  7.1.1.221.isr13".

While installing i didnt get any error, but i am not able to configure MMSIM71,if i go through iscape for configuration ,its not showing any installed products.Even "link" for "tools" inside installed MMSIM directory is also not formed. And also i am not finding "bin" inside the share of path ->" MMSIM_installed_dir /share/".Is that bin is needed..

Is there any relation with this the above error is??

The MMSIM71 release does not need configuring, so that's not a problem. The tools link does not get added (I personally think it should). In fact I always create the "tools" link and put <MMSIMinstDir>/tools/bin in my path. But I just tried it without the link present, and with <MMSIMinstDir>/tools.lnx86/bin in my path, and all was OK.

Perhaps you have something else in your environment messing things up. Can you type in the CIW:

    envGetVal("spectre.envOpts" "simExecName")

If this says something other than "spectre" it means that this has been altered somewhere (in the .cdsinit or in a .cdsenv file) to something, and perhaps that is not in the path.

    Best Regards,

    Andrew.

i typed "envGetVal("spectre.envOpts" "simExecName")" ,its showing "spectre" only..

There is no need of "bin" inside share in path " MMSIM_installed_dir /share/"??

No. No need to touch the share directory. I'd do the following:

    cd <MMSIMinstDir>
    ln -s tools.lnx86 tools

    and then do:

    set path = (<MMSIMinstDir>/tools/bin $path)
    virtuoso

and then see if it works. If it doesn't, I suggest you contact Cadence Customer Support (liks under Support & Training at the top of the web page) where customer support can work through a process to debug what's wrong. I can only realistically give quick suggestions here...

    Andrew.

BTW, what subversion of IC6 are you using ("virtuoso -W" will tell you this)?

Not sure whether that's the problem, but that's probably not wise. That's the IC61 base release (which is what you have there) came out about 3 years ago. A lot has changed and been improved since then. I'd seriously recommend moving to a recent IC613 Hotfix.

You do have to synchronise this, because there's a database change which happened in the IC612 Update release to IC61 which means that the databases from later versions may not be opened in earlier versions of IC61. But provided you understand that, I think you'll have a much better experience moving to an IC613 generation version.

IC61 releases prior to IC613 are no longer supported, and as I said, given the magnitude of the changes in IC61 compared with IC5141, there have been a lot of further improvements and quality improvements since the original IC61 shipment.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

     Hi Andrew,

I wanted to comment the MMSIM link bit, i.e. installScape not creating the 'tools -> tools.lnx86' link for example. I think installScape should be fixed to get this link created when installing MMSIM. This link gets created when I install both IC5141 and IUS82. The link is created before the config step as far as I remember. Anyway, That would be great to get installScape creating this link in MMSIM to make it consistent with other streams.

    Cheers,

    Riad.

    Hi Riad,

It's not actually a problem with InstallScape, but the MMSIM71 (and earlier MMSIM releases such as MMSIM62, MMSIM70). The contents don't have the tools link.

There is an existing CCR  526466 for this, but there are no plans to fix it. I've pushed again for it to be fixed.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
