EXT 9.1.1: About the compatibility with Cadence IC613 and with Assura 3.2

 Hi,

Would anyone please write me whether EXT 9.1.1 is compatible with Cadence IC613 and with Assura 3.2 or not? I downloaded them from the website of cadence but nowhere found the list of compatibility for the EXT 9.1 unlike Assura 3.2.

Thank you.

    Hi

EXT91 is ok for use with ASSURA32USR2_HF and above but some features such as the usage of a non-existent net "0" as the ground net requires ASSURA41_HF3 and above. As ASSURA32 is quite out-dated, please download the latest version of Assura41. I would also think that it is better to upgrade to IC614.

The "What's New" file has some info on compatibility with the various tools.

By the way, EXT912 has just been released.

    Best regards
    Quek

Thank you Quek for your reply.

In fact, I use ibm pdk which is not yet compatible with IC614 and as Assura 41 works only with IC614, so neither will it work for me.

However, thank you for your info ..

    Hi

Most pdks are tested with a specific version of Cadence software and request users to use that particular version but this is hard to follow in practical situations because of the rapid release schedules of software upgrades and bug fixes. If your IBM pdk works for IC613, it will most likely work for IC614. You can simply install IC614 and give it a try. ASSURA41 has releases for both IC613 and IC614. Please see the downloads site. : )

well :), in fact I had been working with IC612. but i needed to use assur32 or above for the layout extraction and assura32 needs IC613 or above. Though IC614 is latest, but I was suggested not to use it now by someone who have already tried this combination. So, I think it would be safer to stay behind ( I lost about 6 months for this kind of version-mismatching problem :( , so a little bit reluctant in this issue).

Thanks a lot for your advise, anyway :-)

    Best Regards

    A few thoughts...

    1. I use an IBM PDK and I've been advised to stick with the tools that the kit was tested with. Specifically my PDK was tested with IC613 and MMSIM71, and the fab service said wait until the next kit patch before upgrading to see if the newer tools are supported.

    2. Are you sure that IC614 is a must for ASSURA41? I have a PDK from another foundry which says to use IC613, ASSURA41 and EXT82. I just installed the kit and haven't tested all the tools so I'm not sure if there truly is a compatibility issue.

I have just checked the list of compatibility for the assura41. It says assura41 works and tested with IC6.1.4.485 CIC (OA). So, it works with IC614 this is for sure. But we can not be sure about its interaction with IC613.

    Regards ..

    Hi

We can be very sure that Assura41 works well with IC613. E.g. You can see that in the downloads page for Assura, it states that base version of Assura is for IC613.
