Rulers as Objects

I am adjusting to rulers being able to be copied, moved, stretched etc. However I find that sometimes I need to select a lot of things and I don't want the rulers to come with me. perhaps they are my references for the edit. I stumbled across the fact that in the LSW if I go to the Object submenu and turn all objects NS the rulers are no longer selectable! Yeah! I would like to know is there a way to add Ruler [VIS] [Sel] into this submenu? because unless I use the global NS for all objects, I am unable to control it individually. (I posted this in the wrong forum earlier, so sorry. )

Assuming from what you describe that you must be using IC614, so you could just use the new layer palette. If you set:

    setenv CDS_USE_PALETTE

before starting virtuoso, and then use the Windows->Assistants->Layers (and Objects, and Guides - you can tab them, and then save a workspace).

On the Guides assistant there is control over the visibility and selectability of the new ruler objects.

Otherwise you can use  leSetObjectSelectable("ruler" nil) to turn off the selectability, or a bindkey like this:

     hiSetBindKey("Layout" "<Key>F9" "leSetObjectSelectable(\"ruler\" !leGetObjectSelectable(\"ruler\"))")

    For more details see: http://support.cadence.com/wps/mypoc/cos?uri=deeplinkmin:ViewSolution;solutionNumber=11610386

    Andrew.

     Hi Andrew,

I've read your posts about disabling selection of the rulers and the solution you reference too.  Is there a way to permanently disable ruler selection?

    Thanks,

    Lin,

No you cannot make them permanently unselectable (not sure why you would want to - because being able to select them to move or stretch them is rather useful (at least now and again). In IC615 you can use the Edit->Select->Set Selection Protection will mark any selected objects as being unselectable - and this info is saved in the database. They then are no longer selectable except if you use the other menus in the Edit->Select menu to make them selectable again.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
