Unreadable font in cdshelp

Hi,

This seems like such a lame issue to post here, but I've searched around and cannot find a solution yet.

My problem is that the font used in the cdshelp browser is unreadable for me.  It's small, cramped, and grainy.

I'm running Cadence on Java Desktop System for Solaris, which has a Gnome display interface. I'm launching Cadence Help v01.20-p009 from the IC6.1.4.500.7 release.

I'm attaching an image for people to look at so you can understand.

If you're using a current version (cdnshelp from MMSIM12.1) and you are still seeing this problem, please contact customer support.

    Kind Regards,

    Andrew.

Hello. I also have a problem with too small GUI font size in  cdnshelp. The thread is quite old, so I would like to ask if any standard solution to this problem has already been developed?
    Regards,
    Luke

    Hi Luke,

It would be useful to know which version you're using. There's a Help->About menu in cdnshelp which should give the precise version number. How are you invoking cdnshelp? Is it from a help menu in Virtuoso? (If so, Help->About in Virtuoso would help too). Or from the command line, in which case "which cdnshelp" would be good to know - which release stream.

I suspect this is a long-fixed problem and you're using some old version, but let's see based on the information you provide.

Oh, and a screenshot of the problem would help.

    Andrew.

Actually, the problem is not that there is some terrible font quality. It is regular 10 or 11 pt font, I guess, which is fine for older displays. However, I am using 4K UHD display and on such a display this size is too small.
For all other Virtuoso windows I simply use the following code in .cdsinit_local:

    hiSetFont("label" ?size 14)
    hiSetFont("ciw" ?size 14)
    hiSetFont("text" ?size14)

and it works fine. However, these settings do not affect Cadence Help GUI font size. I would like to be able to adjust it to meet my preferences.

I use Virtuoso version IC6.1.7-64b.500.7, and I invoke cdnshelp (version is 02.30-p005) from the Virtuoso menu.

Attached below is the image with fonts that I am not able to enlarge shown in red rectangles and fonts that I was able to enlarge (either using system settings or cdnshelp preferences) shown in green rectangles.

    Hi Luke,

Thanks for the clear description - this really should have been a separate and new thread because it's not really anything to do with the earlier (very old) issue, but anyway, it's done now.

Unfortunately I've found no way of solving this, either in the version you're using or later versions. There have been a few change requests which suggest that this should be "fixed" but I can't see any sign of how it was actually fixed, so I'm asking R&D. If I find anything, I'll let you know.

    Andrew.

    Hi Luke,

It turns out that this is indeed fixed in the latest cdnshelp versions. You can download the "CADENCEHELP" release (from March 2020) on http://downloads.cadence.com which is a standalone release containing the help tool - you'd have to launch it directly yourself and search within the tool (you can add libraries of documentation from the settings menu though). In this, the font size in the setting is reflected in the navigator (I tried it).

It's due to be the version of help in the next SPECTRE191 hot fix, and I assume in an upcoming IC618 build too (I don't know for certain).

    Regards,

    Andrew.
