Illegal hierarchical connection

I'm getting huge numbers of the message:

 Warning: Illegal hierarchical connection to internal net between instance......

 

I can't understand why these warning boxes are even there but so many?!

Even when I'm connecting to the pin I still often get the warning box hassles.  

Why would Cadence do this to layout people? It seems to be drastically overdone!

    t would help if you could say what tool you're using and what version of the software. That improves the chance of being able to see if this is a known problem, or something that has been fixed, or if there is a workaround.

    I'm talking about the standard layout tool VXL. I'd like to tell  you the version but this information is hidden so well that I am unable to discover this data.

    VXL seems to want a metal connection to be at the pin only. I think the warning should be in a layer other than the same one that shows a short so I can tell the difference. Of course I prefer to have no such warning in the first place.

  •  In the CIW enter the command:

     getVersion(t)

     The problem is caused by cell placements that overlap each other and cause hierarchical shorts. In IC613 ISR 17, a limit has been set to 1000 markers for these shorts. It is also available in IC614 ISR 1.

  •  The cool thing for the MS Windows type of user is
    that in every window on the right side there is the
    'Help' menu item where you can find an 'About!, which
    tells you the version.

    No need to look ate the log file or use SKILL for getting
    the 'hidden' version.

     

  •  Under the Help button on the CIW is an "About Virtuos" button that brings up the flash screen that displays the version information. This can be done as well as typing in the command I listed in a previous reply.
