Can photogate/photodiode be implemented in cadence 1.6

I am working on a CMOS image sensor based project which involve using photogate or photodiode as the key element(along with other analog amplifiers) My university Lab has installed cadence 1.6 and i am new to it. Please tell me if the said devices are included in the gpdk180 library or if not what can be the options to implement them.

     Hi,

you probably refer to the IC6.1 software.  I don't think that photogates or photodiodes are part of the gpdk180 kit.
Please be aware  that gpdk means  "generic" PDK. You won't find a foundry which can produce any circuits based
on that. It's for demonstration or like in your case for education purpose.

You would need to replace the photosensitive device for your simulation with an equivalent circuit, usually a combination
of caps, resisstors, diode and current sources. Really depends on the device. Try to google about this topic to find
    some references.

    Kind regards,

    Marc

Thanks for your reply Marc. I am curious to know how CMOS image sensor design firms(like aptina, canon, ST) develop their designs. Can i design a full custom cell of say a Photogate and use it at higher abstraction. Regards, Animesh

They (or the foundry if they're not the foundry) would develop a model and create a PDK component to support it. As Marc said, gpdk is an illustrative sample PDK which does not correspond to a real process, and it does not contain things found in specialist processes.

If you're going to be designing for a CMOS image sensor process, the best thing would be to get the real design kit from whoever is going to manufacture it.

    Best Regards,

    Andrew.
