cadence spectre delay problem

Hello all,

When i'm trying to simulate my circuits with Spectre it sticks for a couple of minutes after the last four lines of the image i upload and then continues and finishes successfully the simulation. The problem is that it costs me a lot of time to wait for repeating simulations and i need a solution for this.

I am using the following versions :

Virtuoso sub-version  IC6.1.4-64b.500.6

SPECTRE sub-version  7.2.0.109
CentOS 5.5 64-bit

I should note that the problem exists for older versions of Virtuoso (e.g. : IC6.1.3) as well.In addition i am using the option "Turbo" under High-Performance Simulation menu of ADE L and i am saving the results of the simulations locally, that is in a directory of the local hard-disk and not at the hard-disk of the server that cadence is installed (we use a unique installation of Cadence in our lab and we use NFS to share it with all other workstations and the users are loaded via NIS/Yellow Pages).

If you need more info to come to a conclusion ask me to provide it.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Best Regards,

Jimito13

    Hi Jimito13

I suspect that this problem will not happen when spectre is run in a terminal window. Would you please go to the simulation directory and execute the "runSimulation" file? Does it still show the delay?

In the spectre log file which was ran from ADE, are there any messages about licensing? E.g. retry for license, etc.

    Thanks
    Quek

    Hi Quek,

I found the file you suggested me but i don't know how to execute it in a terminal...do you mean to run it in a way outside the GUI of ADE L?Please guide me if possible.

The spectre log file is clear concerning licensing issues.I also check the CIW messages and i have no warnings or errors.

Any other idea? This is a damn problem,it came up suddenly without doing anything in cadence installation or in my profile and as you can understand it costs time...

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Best Regards,

    Jimito13

    Hi Jimito13

You can use "runSimulation" as follows:

    terminal>cd /your-path/netlist
    terminal>./runSimulation

    OR

    terminal>cd /your-path/netlist
    terminal>spectre -turbo ./input.scs

    Best regards

If it's that critical, you should log a service request with customer support - after all, that's what it is for...

    Andrew,

I am trying to do this (to file a service request) from the appearance of the problem but i can't find where from to do it...Could you please guide me (that is give me the link where we open the SR)?I should not that i have already subscribed to cadence online support section with the sourcelink ID that my professor gave me (and apparently is sent to him from Europractice or Cadence) but in there i can't find any link for opening SR...

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Best Regards,

    Jimito13

    Hi Jimito13,

With Europractice you get access to a "Light" version of Cadence Online Support which allows you to search solutions, but not log service requests. If you have something that needs reporting, you need to report it to Europractice; if they can't answer it, they will log it with us in turn.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Ok Andrew...I will tell this to my professor and see what we can get from Europractice.

    Thank you very much.

    Best Regards,

    Jimito13
